When Should I Let Her Read It?

I just finished the book on the left and am in the middle of the one on
the right....
My daughter has been asking questions about birth moms and family but
this stuff is hard for me to handle.
I was thinking of waiting til she is 10...is that too long?
At any rate, anyone who adopted from China should read both of these
books and it looks like China Witness should be next on my list.

  1. well my six year old has never asked anything about a birthmother. we are waiting for her to ask. She has some anxiety issues and do not want to bring up something she isn't ready for. We also don't travel in circles where we are around anyone pregnant so it has never come up. Good luck and let me know what happens.

  2. Did you read Kay Bratt's "Silent Tears:A Journey of Hope In A Chinese Orphanage?" I ordered it from Amazon, and after it arrived I left it in the van for several days. Reading that book was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

  3. I read them both, too. I don't know when our daughter will be ready for them, though. I guess I'll know when the time comes, like with other things. You'll know too.

  4. I don't know but our 5YO DD is already asking big questions.

I wonder if it is something we/you could read together? But then it is so personal. And for our girls and boys, we just don't know how personal it will be.

Our J, he seems to KNOW something. I don't doubt it knowing what I do know of his story. It breaks my heart.

I would say 10 is possible, but depends on the child.

I need to read the book on the left. Haven't read it yet.
